a - z by john rogers

A-Z is an interactive artwork by John Rogers. Clicking on letters laid out in a keyboard formation takes the viewer to various text fragments, recontextualised quotes and snatches of conversation. New narratives can be built by combining these into different sequences, or they can simply be flicked through in sequence - control over how the piece is used lies with the viewer.

Many of the texts were found by typing keywords and popular phrases into Google. This process revealed the sheer mass of blogging and online diary keeping that is going on at the moment, and created the conversational tone of the piece. The situational specifics provided in the fragments' original context has been completely removed, leaving a series of unravelling loose ends for the viewer to untangle, and making narrative closure impossible.
