Masks

The term 'avatar' originally referred to an incarnation of a god, and still retains the sense of being a system for moving between worlds. These projects explore avatars acting as a kind of mask, physically or digitally 'standing in' for you or your persona in the space of the performance.¬Ý Although touching on the fluid possibilities for self-presentation afforded by the mask, the main focus of this area of practice is on how this interface affects interactions.

Collaborative projects that relate to this area include Insectoid performances which use masks to assist the production of a 'group mind' (a shared understanding of how to behave within the collaborative performance).
